Trace

Follow one change to everything it touches

Terms depend on other terms. Reports depend on terms. Tickets implement them. SynkBase keeps that structure as a graph and walks it the moment something changes.

In development with design partners

How a change is traced

  1. Step 1Changed termDrift is detected on one definition.
  2. Step 2Walk the graphOnly edges that carry a change downstream are followed.
  3. Step 3Collect what depends on itDerived terms, reports, documents and open work items.
  4. Step 4Affected list with pathsEach item shows the route that links it to the change.

The first change is rarely the expensive one

A change to one input metric is usually small and well understood by the team that made it. The cost sits downstream: the derived metric two steps away, the quarterly report that uses it, the three tickets that implemented it last sprint.

Without a map of those dependencies, the reach of a change is found by accident.

What the graph does

Typed relationships

An edge records how two things relate: one term is calculated from another, a report uses a term, a ticket implements it, a document defines it. Only relationships that carry a change downstream are followed when computing impact. Terms that only sit in the same family are left out.

Traversal on every change

When drift is detected, SynkBase walks the graph from the changed term and lists everything downstream: terms, reports, documents and open work items, with the path that connects each one.

History kept

The graph keeps its history. You can see what depended on a term at the time a past decision was made, which is the question an auditor asks.

Honest about limits

If a traversal reaches a configured depth or size limit, the result says so and every count derived from it is shown as a lower bound, "≥ 14", never as an exact number.

Shape SynkBase with us

We are working with a small number of organisations that live with this problem every quarter. Design partners get early access, direct influence on what we build first, and founder-level attention.
