The terms behind the terms

- Business glossary
- A governed list of business terms, each with an approved definition, an owner and a version history.
- Change control
- A process that makes sure changes are proposed, assessed, approved and recorded before they take effect.
- Definition drift
- When copies of the same business definition, held in different systems or documents, stop agreeing with each other.
- Impact analysis
- Working out everything that depends on a thing before, or as soon as, that thing changes.
- Rework cost
- The cost of redoing work that was built on something that later changed.
- Semantic layer
- A shared set of business definitions that sits between raw data and the tools people use to query it.
